November Focus on EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) in Teaching & Learning

Whether you are looking for ways to integrate EDI principles into your teaching practices, wanting to explore ways to create a more inclusive learning environment, or looking for ways to promote compassion in your teaching, we have something to offer you this month!

Professional Development and Learning Opportunities

On November 21st, Victoria Kannen will lead a discussion on Teaching and Learning with Compassion. Join your peers in learning to use kindness, empathy, and compassion to facilitate teaching and learning and foster healthy interactions with your students.

Join Kristeen McKee and Christopher Schubert on November 22 for their workshop on Reducing Implicit Biases in the Classroom. Through case studies and other learning activities, you will learn to identify and refute biases and create a learning environment to engage students in discussions on inclusion.

Wrapping up the month is an experiential, hands-on workshop called Brave Spaces (November 29th). Led by Cynthia Booth and Chris Schubert, participants will explore ways to create safer spaces in our classrooms and help students be brave. Registration is required for this event and space is limited, so please register today!

We also wanted to share an external event called the Summit on Equity, Assessment, and Evaluation. This free, virtual event runs daily from November 7-10 (1-4 PM) and focuses on evaluation practices to promote a welcoming, fair, equitable experience for all students. Register on their website.
