Better Accommodating Our Students

Student planning a schedule on an iPad

What challenge, problem or motivation inspired you to make one small change?

Over the last few years, it became clear that the way the Glenn Crombie Centre could not keep operating the way it was. With the number of students seeking services from the Glenn Crombie Centre growing every year, we needed a way to provide our services in a more convenient way.

Tell us about your one small change:

The small change was the implementation of Clockwork. The project launched in May 2018, with the implementation of the system parameters, by September we had a test environment to play around with settings, by November we had it integrated with Banner and we went live in January 2019.

Tell us about your one small change:

This one small change allows students to access services that would otherwise require an in person visit via a portal on myCambrian. Students can schedule and appointment with many different GCC staff/advisors/counselling, they can request/receive accommodations, they can book to write a test with accommodations, they can view and register for workshops, receive notes from their notetaker, they can request/receive books in alternate format. All of this can be done online with even setting foot in the college. This is meant to help reduce the stigma of using the services, many students try to avoid the Glenn Crombie Centre for fear of being labelled by their peers. It also makes some of our services available after hours. I realize that this change was sprung on without much warning, but once faculty are fully trained in how it works, I believe it will benefit them greatly as well.
