Service Animal

This accommodation is provided when a student’s functional limitations require the use of a service animal.

Faculty Responsibility

  • When you receive an accommodation letter, reach out to the student via email to invite a discussion regarding the presence of the service animal in the classroom (if required).

  • The student’s Accessibility Advisor should be contacted if a conflict would arise with the service animal being in a specific class/lab (e.g. chemistry lab). A case conference with all parties may be required.

Student Responsibility

  • It is the student’s responsibility to review and comply with the AODA – Customer Service – Service Animal guidelines with the GCC.

  • The student is responsible for attending to the needs of the service animal.

  • The student is responsible for having the service animal in close proximity, appropriately restrained, and under control at all times.
