Moodle Course Template Shell Information
Moodle Course Shell Templates are standardized templates designed to simplify course setup, especially for part-time faculty and those teaching a course for the first time. At the start of each semester, these templates can be copied into the current term’s Moodle shells, ensuring the course content is accurate, up to date, accessible, and aligned with quality standards.
Using course templates saves time during startup by providing both students and faculty with the essential information they need in every course, while preventing personal or outdated content from being copied over from previous deliveries. Templates also support consistency across different deliveries and help meet accreditation and quality assurance requirements.
What should be included in a Moodle Course Template?

Moodle Shell Templates are templates that can be copied into new deliveries of a course to help new faculty get started. These shells should not contain any personal information (e.g., faculty names, email addresses, Zoom links) or term-specific dates. Instead, use placeholders and general information that can be customized by each teacher.
- Some programs or courses will have specific requirements about the amount of information to include in the Moodle Shell Template. Confirm specific expectations with your coordinator or Chair.
