What challenge, problem or motivation inspired you to make one small change?

I wanted to make a paragraph writing assignment more interesting and engaging.

Tell us about your one small change:

I used Virtual Reality technology for this assignment since the Hub has a VR headset. With Jessica O’Reilly’s help, I scheduled students in 10-minute intervals to view a video using the headset. This was done in the Hub classroom. Since I had a small English class of 13 students, I was able to schedule students within a 2 1/2 hour time frame. After their experience, students wrote two paragraphs: one about the experience of using VR technology, and one about the video content.

What was the result of your one small change?

My students were definitely more engaged and excited about English! Students with poor attendance in my class participated in this activity. Most of my students had never experienced VR before and thanked me for the opportunity, which I believe helped build rapport. I also received high quality paragraphs, which I assume was the result of heightened interest and engagement.
