Student Services at Cambrian College

Student success depends on hard work, self-motivation, positive attitude and support from faculty, the college, friends and family. We’ve created this page as a resource for you, our faculty and staff, to pass along to your students. 

The links lead to Cambrian College’s website where students can find more information to help them as they navigate through their college years. We encourage you to introduce and talk about all of the support and services that Cambrian offers to our students, both on-campus and online.

Glenn Crombie Centre for Accessibility and Wellness

The Glenn Crombie Centre is a multi-service complex that promotes accessibility and success for students. If you have ever been diagnosed with a learning disability or experienced difficulties in your education prior to coming to Cambrian College, the Glenn Crombie Centre can help. The Glenn Crombie Centre provides the following:

  • Personal care rooms with lifts and accessible washroom and shower facilities​
  • Accessibility advising and support​
  • Testing or classroom accommodation services​
  • Note-taking and interpreter services​
  • Alternate format and print material services​
  • Assistive technology training and support (i.e., speech recognition, text-to-speech and organizational software, digital recorders, technical aids, FM systems, etc.)​
  • Assistance developing learning strategies​
  • Confidential short-term counselling
  • Psycho-educational assessments by the Northern Ontario Assessment and Resource Centre
  • Academic and testing accommodations​

Wabnode Centre for Indigenous Services

The Wabnode Centre for Indigenous Services supports Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit students in their transition to college life.

They help students keep a connection to their community and culture throughout their postsecondary journey.

Wabnode is offering the following services virtually:​

Academic advising, navigating funding opportunities, connection with a cultural coordinator and Elder, scholarships and bursary application assistance, counselling, housing and banking assistance, and reference letters.

Wabnode’s Cultural Coordinator can provide videos on traditional ceremonies, seasonal changes, the moon phases, Bear Feast, and sweetwater.

They also provide online workshops, such as Traditional Hand Drums and Shakers, Leather and Bead Work, Music and Painting, and Traditional Storytelling by Elders.

Wellness

Cambrian has a variety ways to support Wellness on campus for students, there are also many activities and ways to get involved.​​

You can sign up to be a Student Wellness Ninja! This program includes a unique two-hour training called Cambrian Cares. You will be a part of a group of like-minded people that want to bring positivity to our Campus. Being a part of this program includes many Wellness activities, resources, initiatives, and a chance to network, learn new skills and have some fun. Real Campus

Real Campus is a student assistance program. Real Campus can help you improve your health and wellness through therapy, counselling, tools, events, and more.

Cambrian Health Plan

As part of your ancillary fees, you will have access to a health plan. Paid through Cambrian College but managed by our provider at We Speak Student.

At the start of each academic year you are charged fees for the full year ahead (September – August 31st/January to August 31st/May to August 31st)​.

At the start of each academic year you have options. You can change from the defaulted plan to a more dental or vision focused plan OR you can opt-out of the plan entirely if you are able to support us with the name of your alternate provider.​

You also have the options of opting in family members by the same dates.​

The Library

The Library and Learning Commons is the College’s central location for information, study, and research. The Library has a huge collection of information resources for your research assignment needs.

The Library is accessible 24/7 through their website. There you can find thousands of articles, eBooks, videos, and curated research guides for your program area.

You can also online chat/text with Library staff or email library@cambriancollege.ca.

The Learning Centre

We want every student to succeed. To ensure that happens, the Learning Centre provides free tutoring for a broad range of subjects, as well as support for general arts and science programs.​

First Step Centre

Cambrian’s First Step Centre is here to support you. College is fun, but it can also be overwhelming and a bit scary at the beginning, so lean on the support of the Centre if you need help transitioning into your program or simply just navigating college life.

The First Step Centre also hosts a variety of workshops for students, like how to cook on a budget or handle your finances. Keep an eye out for what the Centre has to offer through Facebook.

Cambrian’s Athletics Centre is here to meet your fitness needs. Check out Facebook or Instagram for workouts you can do from the comfort of your own home.

Cambrian Student Indigenous Circle (CISC)

The Cambrian Student Indigenous Circle (CISC) is a student driven, student elected association who promote Indigenous culture in order to improve the quality of Indigenous student life.

Their goal is to help build a sense of community for all students and to help students preserve a healthy body, mind, and spirit through cultural events and awareness.

CISC welcomes all new and returning students to connect.

Cambrian Student Council (CSC)

The Cambrian Student Council (CSC) is a group of dedicated students elected by the student body at Cambrian College.

Council leaders coordinate, promote, and support activities and services for students, including academic grievance representation, bursaries, entertainment, a health plan, student handbooks, political lobbying, and more.

Cambrian Athletic Association (CAA)

The Cambrian Athletic Association (CAA) is the elected body of students that helps the College make athletic programing decisions.

The CAA offers programming to meet both the needs of the recreational and varsity athlete.
