New to Teaching or New to Cambrian?
Welcome to Cambrian’s Teaching & Learning Innovation Hub website!
This is a great first place to begin your teaching career with Cambrian College.
Full-time Faculty Orientation
When is Orientation?
Full-time faculty orientation is mandatory for all new full-time faculty members, even for those who have previously been teaching part-time at Cambrian. We host full-time faculty orientation before the start of each semester in the fall, winter, and spring (as-needed when new faculty are hired).
Where is Orientation?
Orientation is held at Cambrian College (1400 Barrydowne Rd, Sudbury, ON P3A 3V8) in the Teaching and Learning Innovation Hub (Room 1271).
What Topics are Discussed During Orientation?
Full-time faculty orientation is designed to give faculty the information and professional development they need to make a smooth transition to the College environment and to full-time teaching. Additional professional development can be accessed throughout the academic year in The Hub. View upcoming PD and events on the Hub calendar.
Orientation will address the following topics:
- Adult learning theory
- Course and lesson planning
- Creating inclusive classrooms
- Student-centered learning environments
- Orientation to Cambrian technologies and applications
- Moodle training
- And so much more!
How to Register for Orientation
Contact Mel Young, Curriculum Developer, at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 705-566-8101 ext. 6841 to confirm your registration for the next available full-time faculty orientation session.
Additional Optional Learning
While in-person orientation is mandatory for all new full-time faculty members, the Hub has also created online orientation materials that you may find helpful. These materials have been designed for part-time faculty orientation, but anyone who is interested and has access to Moodle using their “A00…” number can participate.
Getting Started with the Faculty Handbook
If you haven’t yet attended orientation and want to get started on some helpful resources, check out the Cambrian College Faculty Handbook. This guide is meant to provide you with a starting point that will hopefully answer many of your questions about teaching at Cambrian. There’s even a handy checklist of items to do upon hire so you can feel good about getting your semester off to a great start!
