DESCRIPTION:Join us in welcoming guest speaker\, Ollivier Dyens for his presentation to Cambrian faculty and staff: \nWhen Minds Multiply: Rethinking Learning in the Age of Human and Artificial Intelligence\nHow can we meet the challenges of a world that will undergo the equivalent of 20\,000 technological changes by 2100? How can we integrate disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence\, ChatGPT\, big data\, simulation\, DeepFakes\, etc.\, into our teaching methods\, institutions and principles? How can we develop critical thinking skills in a world where truth and falsehood are continually intertwined? How do we react to a world where algorithms are infiltrating thought\, creativity\, laws and governance? This conference will examine the major trends in the techno-social changes confronting us\, and propose possible solutions to the fundamental challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s world. \nGuest Speaker Biography\nOllivier Dyens is Chair of the Département des littératures de langue française\, de traduction et de création at McGill University\, where he held the position of Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning) from 2013-2018. From 2013-2018\, he was Vice-Provost\, Teaching and Learning at Concordia University. \nHe is also the founder and co-director of McGill’s Building 21 (building21.ca) a laboratory dedicated to thinking beyond the acknowledged\, the recognized and the comfortable. \nOllivier Dyens holds a PhD from Université de Montréal.
